This past Friday my wife and I agreed that I would pick her up at the office after work rather than her taking the train home. I enoy picking her up because it gives us an hour or so of alone time prior to continuing with the rigors of the day.
As the working day progressed we agreed to take our daughters to dinner and a movie that evening. Thinking that we wouldn't have time for both dinner and movies if I picked her up at the office as we previously agreed, I said to myself "send babe a note seeing if we are still on with the pick up." Needless to say I forgot to send that note. I proceeded to leave the office and drive towards the usual train station when my babe called to ask if i was on my way to her.(Insert oh crap face here) Although we tried to find a solution fact of the matter was it was too late, I was way out of the way, she was already out of the office, and we would be really late. To make things worse my wife was bringing home bags and boxes of stuff that she would now have to lug on the train. While I tried to drive to a closer station than the usual pick up point I find out that a train broke down, my babe had to walk extra blocks just to start her journey home.
In the end I finally got my babe at the usual pick up point; she was sweating, which usually isn't a bad thing ;) but given the circumstances is was. Sweaty and tired, my babe still managed to find the humor in it and give me a smile and a kiss. I felt bad and apologized.
What we must always remember is communication is the key. Whether in bed or in life, it's the same. Communication, honest communication, removes doubt and clarifies everything. Needs, wants, likes, dislikes are out in the open; in the open for our partners to see and act or not act upon. This doesn't mean that we must always act upon our partners desires to please them; heck sometimes a couple's desires conflict with each other. Good, honest, and open communication simply sets the table. You may not eat everything that is set on the table, but there's nothing more important than appreciate the meal and being together at the same table.
Now the story I shared wasn't a deal breaker, just one of those days; but had I communicated, well you get it. We proceed to have a wonderful evening with our girls and ended our night as we always do cuddling in our "Tuesday Bed". ( I will explain "Tuesday Beds" in a future post.)
